Hiding Article Titles (Joomla 3)

On many occassions our clients have contacted us about turning a title off in an article. In order to successfully create an article, users have to include a title for the article, and that title is automatically displayed in the article. This article describes the steps you can take to hide the title so it won't be displayed on the front end. There are a few options to consider. The video below explains these options and a written tutorial follows.

Thankfully, there are a few solutions for this problem. The first solution will involve turning off all the titles in all of your articles. The first step is to log in to the Administration area (the back end) of your site and go to the Article Manager. Once inside the Article Manager, select the "Options" icon.

Once inside the options area, find the "Show Title" option, and select "Hide" instead of "Show". Save your work, return to the front end of the site.

Refresh the front end of your site. You will notice that all of the titles have been turned off in all of your articles. If you did want a title included in an article, but you want to leave the "Show Title" option hidden, you can always create a custom title within the article itself.

Turning off Titles for Individual Articles

To turn off the title for only one article, you'll want to open up the menu item that you have connected to that specific article. In the screenshot below, "Getting Started" is connected to "Main Menu", so in the Administration area (the back end), we need to open up the menu item titled "Main Menu."

Once the correct menu item is opened up, find the "Advanced Options" tab near the top of the page and open it up. Find the drop down menu located next to the first item in the list - "Show Title" - and select "Hide" to hide the title for this specific article. Don't forget to save your work.

Return to the front end of the site, hit refresh, and the title will be gone. All other titles will still be showing.
