Uninstalling Extensions (Joomla 2.5)

In Joomla there is a component that is responsible for installing and uninstalling extensions including components, modules, plug-ins, language packages and templates. This article explains how to uninstall an extension. The images below come from a Joomla 1.5 site, but the process is very similar in Joomla 2.5. To begin, log into the Administration area (the back end) of your site and go to Extensions > Install / Uninstall.

screen1

The next window that appears will list all the components of the site.

screen2

The next step is to choose the type of extension to uninstall. In our example we will uninstall the "Cloudy" template, so we will select the "Templates" tab.

screen3

Next, locate the name of the extension that you want to uninstall, select it, and click "Uninstall". In the example below, we have selected the "Cloudy" template to uninstall.

screen4

If you follow these steps, you will have successfully uninstalled an extension, and you will receive a notice like the one that appears in the screenshot below.

screen5

It is worth noting that we can't uninstall the current default template or any core Joomla extensions.
